Leona Rovegno and her family

Leona Rovegno has been with UCSC for about 7 years as a Data Management Analyst in the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office (FASO). As an Analyst, Leona assists with the reconciliation of Cal Grant, Pell Grant, Direct Loans and Outside Agency Scholarships and Loans. She also leads the Fun and Frugal Team in the FASO. They plan office events, potlucks and activities to promote team building—with a very limited “budget”!

Leona was recently recognized for her extra work in filling a crucial vacancy in FASO. She spent countless hours of her own time helping to ensure the campus’ hiring deadline was met before winter closure. Her colleague remarked that “Leona screened applications after hours and over the weekend so that we could schedule interviews in the few days remaining before the campus closure. She also stayed after hours to conduct interviews and compile interview notes.”

Leona was born and raised in the Bay Area and has lived in Santa Cruz County for 17 years. She has been married for 10 years and has two kids, ages 3 and 1. She graduated from Bethany University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. After working in Mental Health as the Program Coordinator at Laurel Street Center and providing counseling at a local counseling center, she decided to return to her love of numbers and pursue a position as a Data Analyst at UCSC.

Leona enjoys being active in her free time. She loves playing beach volleyball, hiking and running. She also enjoys cooking and baking and fostering her 3 year old daughter’s passion for helping in the kitchen.

Thank you, Leona, for going the extra mile!
