The Division of Undergraduate Education is excited to announce a nationwide search is underway for the next Assistant Vice Provost of Advising and Success.

As the academic advising leader for the campus, the AVP convenes the Undergraduate Academic Advising Council, working to advance academic advising as a key element of student success. Through their work and the work of staff in the Office of Campus Advising Coordination, they identify and address challenges and opportunities for academic advising campus-wide in both college and major advising offices.

As the leader for Colleges Advising, the AVP supervises the Director of Colleges Advising, who supervises a team of 28 professional college advisors and preceptors who support students in the achievement of their academic goals, from matriculation to graduation. In this capacity, the AVP collaborates with college provosts and other stakeholders involved with the colleges, and manages the financial resources for advising staff. Colleges Advising serves as the generalist branch of academic advising on the UC Santa Cruz campus, serving all 17,000+ undergraduates, with a focus on first-year and major exploration advising, and academic success.

As the leader of the Office of Campus Advising Coordination, the AVP manages a team of 10 professional staff who support training and development opportunities for advisors; develop and improve policies, procedures, and tools; collaborate with campus partners to support student success; and develop and support programs and innovations to support undergraduate success. The Office of Campus Advising Coordination includes staff focused on academic advising (Director of Colleges Advising, Assistant Director for Programs Advising, and cross-college advisors); strategic advising initiatives (Assistant Director and 2 retention and graduation specialists); and honors and research opportunities (Coordinator of honors and research opportunities and  grant implementation manager); as well as a data and process analyst.
