On Friday, July 26, UC Santa Cruz and Merrill College welcomed nearly 140 newly admitted first-year and transfer students, along with their families, for Summer Edge's Session 2 Move-In. Families arrived early, with lines forming as soon as 7 a.m., excited to check in and move into the residence halls with their cohort of early-start students.
Throughout the day, the campus was full of smiles, lively chatter, and parents praising the campus’s beauty and the smooth move-in process. Many families stayed for the afternoon Welcome Reception at Merrill's Cultural Center, where they talked with staff, RAs, and Peer Mentors to ease concerns about the transition to campus life.
TAPS and STARRS were also present, connecting with students and providing invaluable resources to students. The day was a culmination of the collaborative efforts and preparation of various campus departments and staff, and most importantly a celebration of a new 2024 cohort of Banana Slugs.
