The Division of Undergraduate Education is proud to introduce Yunny Yip as the new Assistant Vice Provost of Undergraduate Advising & Success. Yunny brings a depth of experience in advising and student affairs and is committed to creating programs and processes that uplift students.
Yunny comes to UC Santa Cruz from San Francisco State University, where she most recently served as the Director of the Undergraduate Advising Center for 1st and 2nd Year Advising. In that role, she supported the retention and success of low-income, first-generation, and traditionally under-represented students.
Yunny started her higher education career at Columbia University, where she provided academic advising and support. She advanced into leadership roles at the California Institute of Integral Studies, Stanford University, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In all of these roles, Yunny focused on developing student success programs and strengthening academic and career support.
“Throughout my career, I have gravitated towards roles that have uplifted students and ensured their equal access to a rigorous, dynamic, and transformative education,” said Yunny. “I love creating connections and partnerships that integrate and center students in the collegiate experience.”
Yunny holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.
In her spare time, Yunny enjoys spending time outdoors with her partner, children, and new puppy Mochi, and is an enthusiastic supporter of her sons’ sports teams.
“I am humbled to be selected as UCSC’s AVP of Advising & Success; to join such an innovative and inclusive community is truly an honor. I am most excited to learn from our students and colleagues, and to use that collective knowledge to create student-centered processes and structures that promote undergraduate success and retention – all within a collaborative and cohesive advising framework. I can’t wait to learn your histories, understand your contexts, and support your journeys!”
Thank you to the search committee for their thorough work in recruiting Yunny for this important position.
